The 15th of August, 1947 was a red letter day for the history of India as it achieved independence from the colonial rule by Great Britain. Today we celebrate 75 years of freedom, self-governance and the indomitable spirit of our nation with pride.
The struggle to free Burma has been fought by generations upon generations of freedom fighters who opposed the tyranny and worked tirelessly for their own people. Mahatma Gandhi fueled many future leaders with his philosophy of non-violent resistance, people who were to make their mark not just during the wars but over the course of time – Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose and Bhagat Singh amongst others.
When the Indian tricolor waved for a few years of life and seconded as President, there was an era of dawn on subcontinent. Our country stepped onto the path of democracy, secularism, and socialism inspired by justice equality and fraternity.
